Should kids play in the street? |
What should i do, I cannot believe I am being such a kill joy. I have two preschool boys and live in a cul de sac.; Lst year a family moved in with 5 children and suddenly all the kids started going out to play in the street. Now there are approx 12 kids who play from 4pm till 10pm every day! My two sit with their noses pressed to the window begging to go out. I dont like kids playing football by my car, riding their bikes up and down in the road just seems plain dangerous to me. Danger aside I dont think its fair to all the other people who dont have kids, when the windows are open in the summer you can hear the ball bouncing up and down, shouting, screaming and laughing. Do you want to hear that after a hard day at work. I feel like I am on a council estate or in the middle of a park. I know I sound like victor meldrew, should i loosen up? Loosen Up, ball hockey in the middle of the road is an essential component to child. Plus you live on a cul de sac. The only thing is is that because they are still very small, do not leave them unattended. Imagine how bad they feel watching other kids have fun while their mummy wont let them play. They are more likely to drown in a bucket or swimming pool or fall out a window than be run over in a cul de sac w/ tons of kids around. Plus if you dont allow them any elastic, as soon as they get any free reign, tehy will go wild. And untill, then, they will do anything to defy you and gain independance. Imagine, they see children playing outside but you say noe. They procede to sneek out through a doggy door or w/e and toddle through the street unattended. Theyre lost. If the joyous sound of children playing and having fun annoys you, maybe you should move into the country where your 2 children can have all the room to play they want, without annoying their killjoy mom. If people with kids don't like the noise of summer, then they picked the wrong neighborhood. I should coup my kids up( when OUTDOOR ACTIVITY is baisically a MUST) because someone doesn't like the sound of their laughter? They were kids once. And that aside. Playing in the street on a main road No. I grew up in the suberbs, and there was maybe two cars to come down my street a day. The street was where we played hocky, when a car pulled up, we moved and let them through, we always had a "car lookout" Usually the youngest because they couldn't play. It can be frustrating and maybe you can go to the neighborhood meeting and slightly complain about the noise and wish it was over at a descent time but then if you can not beat em JOIN them and then maybe they will see their playing from an adults standards and if there is no supervision for their play maybe you should start being the curb mom and if they don't like it then they might take it farther down the curb Let them play. Its a cul de sac. Playing football, baseball or tag on the street were the funnest things of my childhood. Kids learn teamwork, leadership and comradere. I dont think the sounds of kids screaming "GO!" "Alright!" and so on are going to be disruptive to todays "nine to five'rs". Homework first then go play, that was my moms rule. Me I grew up on a cul de sac and I played in the street all the time when I was a kid and nothing happened. Why aren't you letting your kids go outside and play? That is not normal. They need to run and socialize. You know we have a problem with childhood obesity in this country, right? You know that for generation and generations kids have been playing outside, right? You know that kids who are not exposed to other kids become serial killers, right? (that one I made up but seriously, loosen up!) Of course your kids have their noses pressed against the window and they want to go out and play, that is what little kids do. I'm so sad for your children right now. |
