I started just running on the beach, on trails, on the road, etc. and did a couple of 5Ks and a 10 K as speed variation training exercises. Since I had to limit running time because of soreness in my legs, I started swimming long distances, morey boogie, and surfing. But since I was swimming so much, I decided to train for a triatholon and bought a mt bike. After a malfunction in the bike nearly killed me going down a slope, I traded it in for a Schwinn since they are supposed to be the safest. Anyway, those are side details. I am looking for suggestions for the specific training for steeple chase. I ran it a few times in college but abandoned the track for road races when I started doing very fast road race times. (47 minutes for 10 miles in fall of 1972, for example.) Now I am physically much stronger and am doing speed training to also run the 400 meters at the masters level. Great answer. Interesting site but since I am more or less professional, I don't pay for amateur's advice. But I found a little useful information and other sites where I can glean a little even though I could do it better for free. Intesting site but I could do it much better (Man, this guy is really crazy--delusions of grandeur yet!!) Sorry but I ran 10 miles on the Forest Park bike paths in an officially sanctioned race in 1972 in 47:02. Who does that now? BTW, I can beat most young guys on racing bikes over a mile or 20 0 meters on a Schwinn and probably even on a mt. bike. I can swim out 2 miles from the shore using my evil surf board. And no one under 50 dares to play bball with me if I take it out of second gear. |
