Road Bike - Proper riding posture?

Can someone, in non-technical language that a layman can understand, describe the proper road bike riding posture to avoid:
1. Middle back or lower back pain.
2. Shoulder Strain.
3. Neck Pain.
4. Numb fingers
Or alternatively describe the posture errors that cause the above problems.

Also helpful:
Dumbed down version of how to fit a road bike. Not necessarily the detailed to the micro-inch bike shop procedure for hardcore riders, but more along the line of guidelines.

Here is a great site to help, it even has a section on aches and pains:

The bike shop way isn't just for hard core riders.

Your experiencing problems shows your need to visit the shop.

How much is your health worth? The numbness can be a sign that you will experience nerve damage if it continues. The shoulder, neck and back pain can be a warning sign to you of a future of a bad back.

Seriously -- read the Sheldon Brown link, but visit the bike shop with your bike and pay them to fit you. You may need some parts to have it work for you.
