Road Bike Mod?

Is it possible to switch out the flat bar and install a drop bar on this bike?
http://www.sportchalet.com/product/index...

It is possible. Think carefully, though -- a new bar, new shifters, new cables, and possibly an new stem may cost you almost as much as the cost of the bike. This is especially true if you are going to pay a bike shop's labor rate to do the work.

HTH

Yes it's possible.

But could be "expensive"- becase of the shifters....
normally on a bikes with drop bars- the gear shifters
are integrated into the brake levers. NOt the kind on that bike.
If you have to pay for new shifters & brakes - it could easily be -$300 probably more. Plus bars. That is more than the whole bike cost.
You should just buy a a bike with drop bars already on them. If saving money is the goal.

Or better yet - What is the goal ?
To get a real road bike -for cheap?
If so then that's not the bike to meet that goal.
--> Maybe you should consider a used bike.

If you consider the Schwinn others reccomended with the Drop bars already on there http://www.target.com/Men%E2%80%99s-Schw...
- make sure it fits you - it doesnt appear to come in different sizes. Fit on a road bike is very important.

ANd if you think about just the Shifters on a road bike from a real Bike shop costing over $200. What corners do you think they cut on the $219 total bike.
I have heard of some real cheap online road bikes but don't think anythign is less than $350.

micargi & dawes are bike brand names.

You could, but I don't know why you would.
Did you know you can get a similar Schwinn at Target:

Or, this one if you want a drop bar configuration:

Yes. If the handlebars don't fit the stem, you may need to buy a new stem. For road use you would probably want a negative rise stem, to enable you to ride in a more agressive riding style. Ask for a road stem.

I wouldn't.
That bike is a hybrid commuter. It has different geometry and top tube length than a road bike.It might be hard on the back after a long ride.
But if you want to you can .

Yep, I don't see why not. You'll need new STI shifters and cables (change in length) though.

Don't go thinking you'll somehow turn it into a racing bike ;)

yea it simple
