What is the difference between a dirt motorbike and a motorbike meant for on road and dirt?

My bf wants to buy a motorcycle and instead of a dirt bike, he wants a dirt/road bike?? What's the difference between one that is for only dirt and one that is designed for both dirt and road use?

thats mainly the only difference is the lights that make it street legal. but tires, suspension, gear ratio. stuff like that will be different as well

Safety equipment, suspension, exhaust and tires. You need lights, turn signals and mirrors to get a street license.

A dirt/road bike has a headlight, brake light, turn signals, horn, and a license plate.

its called enduro. it has license plates, mirrors, head light, turn signals etc....... its street legal. you ever seen dirt looking bikes on the road. those are enduros. thats what he wants. the other is dirt bike. strictly off road. illegal to go on the street

The dirt bike is for off-road riding and is not licensed for the road. Hence no need for turn signals, headlites or stop lites.
The enduro version can be ridden off-road and on-road with the ability to be licensed and satisfies safety requirements for on-road.

The on/off road bike will have lights & turn signals.

a dirt motor bike is ment for ultra turain roads that is rally bikes and a bike for road and dirt is based on our intrests

R P is right on.

the correct term is dual sport bike.
the difference is dirt bikes do not have
a headlight or taillight. dual sport bikes
have a headlight, taillight and turn signals.
