Purple Extreme lubricant on a new bike? |
I am buying a new road bike and I would like to lube it with Purple Extreme lubricant (a very good dry lubricant). I realize that I will need to clean all of the factory lube off of the chain but is it necessary to clean the rest of the drivetrain parts since the bike has not even been riden yet? Any thoughts? Thanks! If you are going to use Purple Extreme you do need to remove all "wet" petroleum lube from all the parts that the chain touches -- Idlers, chain rings and cassette. Even if it has not been ridden yet, the derailleurs, I assume, have been adjusted - so the crank has been turned on a stand. All you want is any residue gone to not attract any dirt -- the whole purpose of a dry lube is to not attract dirt. on a new bike you really dont need to lubricate it it would be best, but since it's new you could get by not cleaning it all, but you really should at least give it a wipe down!! hope this helps lubricant llol.... |
