What is the best street bike to start out on?

I have a lot of experience off road, riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers. i am looking to buy a bike so i can save money on gas. I want something that can ride two so my girlfriend and i can can go on dates on it. it doesn't have to be quick. 150 mph max is more than enough. any advice is appreciated. I live in MI if anyone has one for sale.

Buy a Buell

Yamaha R6, has enough power, small enough motor for good gas mileage, handles well, looks good.

Go to site below and click on the video that says "What new riders should know and buy" and also click SUBSCRIBE, its free and you get free updates, video and audio about riding.

well if you want to save money on gas- dont buy a R6/ 1 as they are sports bikes and are designed for performance , so drink fuel!.
With a mpg of only 35mpg on the R6

And
a slightly better mpg of 38mpg on the R1

Which incase you didnt realise is about the same mpg as a car!.

They wouldnt interest me.
First you need to decide what bikes you like the look of, what sort of riding you intend to do...eg is it an everyday workhorse or a bike for mucking about on?

I myself own a Kawasaki GT550 (entry level tourer) it does 50mpg. Not exactly exciting style or performance, but is a workhorse and pretty bullet proof with minium care.

perhaps add in your question sort of bikes you like the look of: factory customs, cruisers, sports, tourers, enduro, street scrambler, standard street bike, classic bikes from 80's n prior?

Hey man, If you are looking to use a bike as a daily rider. Costs of maintenance are a huge factor, But also wind /rain protection is also something to consider. 600 cc bikes get about the best mileage . The super sport 600's i.e gsxr, cbrr, r6 -are all great bikes but in my opinion not good for commuting. They are all true race bikes. Yamaha has the fz600 a really good bike for daily riding at almost all speeds It offers a half fairing for protection, fuel injection ,sealed battery, comfort for 2 up riding and a sleek underseat exhaust. a rear seat bag fits well for rain gear and such and can be fitted w hard cases for even more storage if needed [Givi ] Also the suzuki vstrom 650 is a nice ride as well. I dont really like the look of it but as far as quality and performance its a well made bike , with good protection as well.If you can get past its appearance. Both of these bikes in the mid 7k range, Keep talking w other riders before you buy and good luck.

I would recommend an older VFR750 or an older CBR F4i, but we can't really tell you, find something you like and go ride it to see if it's comfortable.

Suzuki SV 650S if you are looking for a sport bike

Victory for a cruiser
