What MTB chain should I get?

I have a 2007 Diamondback Response hardtail mountainbike and one link on the chain, for some weird reason, wont budge. Im sick of it and want a new chain. Any suggestions out there? I use my bike both on and off road and Im not familiar with chain removal and replacement, so any advice out there Im willing to listen.

I prefer SRAM chains, they have preformed well and the price isn't bad. For all your chain questions go here:

In my book, SRAM and Shimano make the best, most cost effective chains. You need to chose either an 8 or 9 speed model depending on the number of gears on your cassette.

When you get the chain, you also need to get a chain tool. You can either get a chain tool that is part of a multi-tool to keep with your bike or you can get a shop type chain tool. A shop type tool has bigger, beefier parts that are easier on the hands to operate. A multi-tool is good to keep with the bike in case you have problems on the trail.

The Park Tool Website has a nice article on chain maintenance and repair. I suggest you read it before you get going. Here is the link:

Whether you get a Shimano or SRAM chain, but a couple extra SRAM "gold" links. These are two part master links that are dead simple to use for emergency repairs.

Once you take your old chain off, I suggest you work on cutting and joining it a couple times to get practice before you go to work on your brand new chain.

Hope this helps.
