Can recumbent bikes fit on bus bike racks? (In Seattle)? |
I'm really wondering pretty specifically, if short-wheelbase recumbent bikes will fit on Metro and Community Transit (and I guess Sound Transit) bike racks on those buses in the Seattle area. I have a trike that I know won't, the long-wheelbase bikes seem like they'd obviously not fit, but the short-wheelbase ones appear as though they might. If anyone has any experience with this and whether Metro and Community Transit will allow these on their racks, I'd appreciate it. It might, but the width of it would probably limit the amount of bikes that can fit on the rack to just one.. yours I checked the website. It said tandems and recumbents excluded. It doesn't say why. Almost all bus companies use the same sport rack with the same dimensions. my bike has an 1160 cm wheelbase and fits if i turn the front wheel backwards, gaining about 4 inches. that is a Raleigh gruv with 26 inch wheels. It is the longest bike i could get on a bus rack so, if your 'bent falls in this dimension, should maybe fit. the transit companies are quite helpful, San Diego publishes specifications. wow, the above response seems unecesary, i have have never had a problem geting one of my bikes onto a bus rack with a recumbant when i broke down or the weather went south. as long as the wheel base is good you shouldnt have any problems. 3 years commuting in seattle |
