Recumbent Bike vs. Elliptical Machine ??

I am 240 lbs and have a treadmill but my knees have been killing me. I have people tell me about these two machines. I cant decide which is a better buy, good for weight loss and good for interval training? Can anyone give me some insight??

A recumbent bicycle - where you sit back in a full seat with your legs in a horizontal position. This puts the body in a position where you maintain the optimal angle between back and legs as on a conventional bicycle, provides a more comfortable riding position with no weight on the wrists, and support for you BACK.

Go for the recumbent bike. Also, when you adjust the resistance, it's more obvious so that you can adjust the work load easily whereas in a Elliptical Trainer even you do not make any effort to move, it is still working itself, especially when you go too fast, it takes longer time to slow down. But the bike takes up more space. For the training part if you buy something with built-in prog there should be a repeated hill climb or just one hill pattern prog, you do you wrok-out from easy to hard, and so on and finish at easy speed.
