What muscles will a recumbent bike work? Will my calves get a good workout? |
. Please only answer if you actually KNOW. Dont just guess. . Recumbent and upright both work the same leg muscles. The upright will work your chest and arm muscles a bit more when you stand. There are two muscle groups that make up your calves gastrocnemius and the soleus muscles. Both muscles contract to extend your feet and toes. The soleus can only fully work when your leg is bent. (Around 30degrees). You could probably target them specifically by extending the boom (of the recumbent) a little more than recommended and adopting a style that involves bending your ankle. This won't be a particularly good style for riding.(Won't work on an upright becuse your more likely to roll your pelvis.) Generally speaking female cyclists have great legs so I wouldn't be that worried about targeting the calves alone. Just get out there and ride. Either upright or recumbent or better still both. Source(s): Blokes can't help but notice these things all of your leg muscles definatley. it will work all of your leg muscles There are better things for calves. It'll work Quads a lot. |
