I ordered a recumbent bike. can you lose abdominal fat around your stomach while burning calories?

Yes. Any kind of cardio workout will burn fat and therefore, you will lose fat all over. After you do a good cardio workout, concentrate on doing a few exercise to target the particular area's you'd like more tone and over time as you build muscle and lose fat, you will see more definition.

absolutely. you know what works best, when you go out in the morning without breakfast. this forces your body to burn calories from fat because you have no sugar left on your system. try ridding from at least 45 minutes.
there is a science behind burning calories and not burning muscle.
try this, and you will see the pounds disappear.

The answer above is actually incorrect. If you go an workout with sugar in your system your body does burn some fat but it slows down your metabolism since there is no available fuel. Ultimately, it is not the work that you do while exercising that has the most effect, but the changes that happen to how your body works that are most important. You need to focus on increasing your metabolism and building muscle. This means a good balance between cardio and strength training. Anyone who tells you to starve your body to burn fat is mistaken.

Cycling burns energy at a lower rate (per mile or per pound of rider weight) than other sorts like running, swimming, or even walking. This is because of the relatively small number of muscles groups involved in the activity.

It is proven that once you exceed about 45 minutes duration for exercise, you WILL enter the area where more fat than sugar is burned ... because the easy-to-burn sugars are already used up. However, complex carbohydrates are the next choice for most people, since the diet is usually fairly high in that ype of nutrient.

To burn some of the fat off the abdomen, the best route is to use excerises that focus on muscle groups in that region (like sit-ups, crunches, push-ups, lunges, yoga, etc). The muscles are going to first burn sugars, sure ... but then they'll start drawing from the local "fat", since it's right there and readily available, rather than pull carbohydrates from elsewhere in the system.

Cycling - particularly a recumbent - does not help with reducing midriff flab for the most part. Additional exercises like those listed above, which are used to strengthen the body's core, are also required.

And to show ANY improvement, the amount of calories going in has to be less than the amount being expended ... so an hour's ride at 10 mph (thereby burning 280 calories for a 150 lb rider) does NOT mean go out and have a slice of pizza and two beers to celebrate (ingesting around 500 calories, most from sugars and fat).

Your body decides where the fat loss is. You can't spot reduce.
