My boyfriend went out of town and left his bike with me... Should I?

He'll be gone until Monday and I've always been curious about learning to ride his motorcycle. He gave me the key to start his bike every few days but I'm thinking about taking it on a test run. How hard can it be? I've ridden a quad before. Should I?

It's a Kawasaki ZX-14

You will crash, it's a FREAKING ZX14. It goes 105 IN FIRST!! If you don't die in the wreck, you will when he strings you up. If you don't want to be the girl on the internet who was tragically killed by her boyfriend you'll do EXACTLY what he tells you.

I trust TWO women to ride my bike, they are BOTH expert riders. You ain't it. One can write a good check for full replacement value from her pocket lint. She'd STILL be sent packing after a stunt like that.

its harder than it looks... u gotta shift with ur feet

uh.. for someone who doesn't know how to ride.. it can be really hard. don't do it. not only will he get mad because you took it out without his knowledge. you could possibly wreck it, or mess it up by not knowing what to do. wait until he gets back so you can ask him to teach you.

If thats the first bike your trying to ride you'll probably get hurt real bad. its alot harder than it looks

would you play with a loaded gun if you knew nothing about guns ?

If you would then go right ahead and mess with it---- a road rash, broken clutch handle, bent wheel, and missing spokes as well as cuts bruises and scraped paint are easier to explain and less harmful than a bullet hole in your head.

You can tell him that a big wind storm came along and toppled onto the ground (after it blew the garage door open ?)

Be sure your medical insurance is paid up.

don't do it. big mistake. if you do and you
fall down you will no longer have a boyfriend.

Dont do it without his permission.
You really need to have someone there to learn with and to help in case you crash.

the female body has softer bone structure and more delicate skin than a male, and since appearance matters to them, scarring is not wise. women are always are hurt more physically and mentally in the same type of accident than a male of similar size and age. You would have to be an idiot to even try this, and I'll bet you won't know if its overheating while you run it for him. I think he's a nut case for handing over the key & not disabling the bike. Lent bikes are bent bikes, I've found.

no u should not , what if u wrecked it or hit a car , the insurance will not cover the damages u do to the bike or other ppl and u will end up sued , i assume u are not a liscened driver of any bike since u are just curious about driving it , and if u hit someone or something he would have to say he did not give u permission to drive it to keep himself from being sued are u prepared for the possible outcome of ur actions

whoa there girl. DON'T DO IT!!
if it was a 150cc i'd say go for it. but not for a zx-14. i've got my learners and i'm too scared to even sit on a bike over 600cc, let alone a 1400cc

i'd say no but if you do take it very easy because that is one hell of a machine

Don't even start it, Being started for a few minutes is more damaging that setting for a few days.

I've been riding 35-plus years, and wouldn't trust my skills to take a ZX-14 out without the owner's permission. That thing is a missile, and unless you're well trained, it will chew you up and spit you off (yes, it is evil, and wants to hurt you). Here's an idea: check out classes at the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (http://www.msf-usa.org) and learn how to ride. You'll have a hobby you can share with your boyfriend, and one you can enjoy the rest of your life, even if he doesn't turn out to be "the one." You'll be glad you did!

Definitely not, this isn't a learner's machine and you'd be taken by surprise as soon as you dropped the clutch ( ie assuming you know where the clucth is and what it's for).

Sorry to sound patronising and I see you've ridden a quad, but this is a two wheeled monster and will require a very different technique to control it on sealed roads!
Do you know how to change gears? are you tall enough to keep the bike upright, can you coordinate the clutch and throttle? do you know how to go round corners? do you know how and when to use the front or back brakes? and most of all, can you handle a machine with way over 100 brake horse power?

Best to learn on a small bike 50cc to 200cc and then progress.
- I think your boyfriend will be pleased to teach you!, - better that than a messed up face and body and a wrecked bike!

By the way, I'm 64 and have had around 20 bikes, and had my fair share of bruises and gravel rash over the years!

Good luck (with your small bike of course).

Its not hard but its not easy. Shifting gears with the clutch click up and u need protective gear and a license. Im still learning on a small dirt bike 125cc but it is enough for me at the moment

Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever,(enuff already) ride another persons bike without their express permission.

Some people wont let their partners or friends ride their bikes, ever. To some, there is a deep personal relationship with their bike.

Don't go down the path of thinking "Well, he didn't say not to ride it". If he didn't INVITE you to ride it, DON'T! If you really want to ride it, wait until he returns and ask.

A ZX-14 is a huge bike, both in size and power. You need only to loose you balance just sitting on the beast and it will fall over. Don't kid yourself, you will NOT be able to stop it or pick it up afterwards. Been there, done that, got the T shirt.

Learn to ride at least a 500 and prove that you can handle that before thinking of trying to ride a ZX.

"How hard can it be?" As we say in Oz, BLOODY!!!!!!

If anything can go wrong it will go wrong!?!?!?!?

Bad idea. My sister was being nice one day and decided to push her boyfriends bike in the garage and ended up in the emergency room with a sprained ankle. She couldn't hold it up and dropped it on herself needless to say the boyfriend was super pissed about the new scratch on his bike.

I think taking and using something without the owner's permission could be called 'stealing'. Add to that the facts that you don't know how to ride a bike, and his insurance may or may not cover you if you get hurt while riding the bike without his permission. Use your brains. How hard can it be? Well, experienced motorcyclists die every day, and inexperienced ones die more often.

Go on have a go.
What have you got to lose.
Or what can you afford to lose.
Me,Well,I would be already on it and would'nt be back till
TUESDAY

If you ruin it you will have a major problem
so I would ask a friend to teach you first, and
then take it on a test run if you can't help
it. I guess, having been on a quad before
makes it easier but I read this book where this
girl is learning how to ride a motorcycle and
she thinks "how hard can it be" but it is extremely
hard for her so I'd watch it.

No, No, No. Did I say NO? You will most likely damage it.
If you are curious about learning to ride sign up for an MSF training course. They provide the motorcycles so you dont have to worry about wadding up your bf's bike.
Have fun.

not just no- but hell no. A ZX-14 isn't even close to the quad that you rode.

Before you know what happened you'll be 3 miles away in the bushes.

But it's great that you're interested in riding. Take the rider's course, get yourself a bike, then one day you'll have an even better bike than his.

Ya nuts...... What you wanting...to make him your EX boyfriend.... a quad is NOTHING like a two wheeler..... If your want to learn, what until he gets back and can work with you...or go down and sign up for a class.... I sold a bike to a guy and when he came to pick it up..... he crashed 2 times before he could get out of the drive..... come to find out.... he was alittle like you...... he rode a three wheeler once and figured he could ride anything..... NOW, the most important part of this..... they are not toys and you could get yourself hurt really bad or killed...... I don't think your bf, want to come home to that.....

you have to know how to shift so u dont flood it out etc...

they are fairly easy to balence and I doubt you will lay it down, but if u do the small scratches cost alot of $$ to repair, maby ask one of your neighbors who has a bike to show you how to ride it, and stay on your block

if you've never ridden a street bike then this is a bad idea sport bikes are awesome bikes but can kill you just as fast , just start it for your boyfriend like he asked then when he gets back have him teach you if you really want to ride his bike

I don't know about metric riders, but HD riders can be mighty sensitive about others riding their scoot without asking.

i think it scares you. why else would you
ask?

Yeah! Go for it! ZX14 is a beginner bike perfect for first timers. Its even an automatic so you can just get on and gas it. C'mon, who would even consider doing this?!

No way!
1) His insurance is not going to cover you if something happens.
2) You have said you've not driven a bike...that is not one to start riding with.
3) At the very least, you will lose the boyfriend when..not IF, but when, he finds out.
4) Your life is worth more than an illicit opportunity to try his bike. A mistake on that bike can easily mean you die...the least is a serious injury and the best you could hope for is a damaged back, arms or legs from the bike leaving you behind somewhere or falling and you trying to catch it.

I was going to say don't do it. But everyone is urging you not to, so I take the other side.

Just do it.

What can possibly go wrong?
