Are they strict on drink driving in Crete???

I am 18 years old and im going on holidays to Crete in the summer for my Leaving Cert holiday which is like a graduation holiday. I heard that there are many quads and bikes over there that you can rent. Since I will spend most of time completely **** faced drunk I would like to know if anybody who has been there before knows if the police are strict and breathalyze peolpe on a regular basis. Thanks in advance

And do you need a helmet??

Have you ever seen traffic in Greece? Of course I have not been on Crete but been in northern Greece, Athens, and all around day trips from there, down to Sounion, over to Poros. and YES I would want a helmet on IF in heavy traffic. For just a leisure moped type bike I see locals all time without them.

As for the DUIs, June 4th am going for my 9th yearly trip and have yet to see roadblocks such as we have in the states pulling in ones who have been drinking too much. But I have heard they can be tough, just never have seen it. I have stayed from 2 months to as little as 3 weeks each year and am out all hours of the night. Go with what the locals tell you..just remember, try to enjoy part of your holidays..you don't have to get ****faced all the time to enjoy Crete....they don't.

DUI is taken very seriously in Greece. The thresholds are low, the fines severe, and random brethalyser checks frequent.

Firstly you are extemely selfish to consider driving when drunk - you can kill someone! If you want to kill yourself then go ahead .... but to kill an innocent person walking along the street because of your ignorance. To actually plan to drink and drive is absolute madness! Every month we have to go to funerals in Preveza - funerals of drink drivers or victims of drink drivers - either friggin' walk or don't drink!
