Motorcross/dirtbikes?

Hi,

I have a 350 raptor 07 model and I want to get a 125 two wheeler of any brand.
I have only been riding the quad a couple of months and I love it.

Is it to hard to have more than one bike at a time?

Is a 125 a good transitional bike from a quad?

Im just under 6ft tall, will I need one of the 125s that are lower or higher?

Also I dont know anything about motorcross racing but Im interested, what are the basic things I need to know???

Thanks

I really think that with how tall you are you would do better with a 250cc. The 250cc 4 stroke isnt that much different than a 125cc but possibly a little heavier and you would not feel quite as much like you are riding a peewee 50. I really don't know a lot about quads but have sons who race several different size bikes as I am in Australia and at the moment my youngest is entitled to ride three different sections which means he is swapping from a crf150r to a cr125cc then to a cr250cc. He seems to manage the change easily and although I guess the difference would be much greater going from a quad to a two wheeler I am sure you would find your way.
If you want to race you should go along to your local club and watch some of their race days. See what sections they have that you could ride and get some information from the club secretary about what you need to do to join and then get a race licence. Where I am seniors have to do a basic course if they are first timers and juniors have to keep a log book and also do 5 hours training before getting their licence then 5 hours yearly till they are senior.
By going to your local club you will also get the opinions of those there as to what is your best option for a bike and you may even find someone who is selling one as they upgrade bikes a lot. Many clubs also run races for women so that you don't have to mix it with the boys unless you want to.

125cc motocross bikes do not come in different heights like a play bike such as the TT-R 125 does. I agree with Auburn that the 250F would be a better transition from the 4 stroke Raptor and you really want to be on a 4 stroke if you plan to race MX. As far as what you need to know about motocross, basically getting the right bike is the first step (4 stroke!!!), then getting the proper gear and finding a track to practice and race on. Go to your local dealer and ask for information on any MX tracks in the area. Go to a few race and just observe. Get your bike and gear and then find a track that holds open practice. Get comfortable on the track before running your first race.
