Quad bike tragedy..father arrested?

http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,3...
Jail for him.....or has he suffered enough?
What do you think?
The car was being driven by a 28-year-old woman and earlier this week police said she would not face any charges.

the 4X4 driver faced no charges, since cars are allowed on UK highways, the drivers details were all in order & she was perfectly legal, she probably wasn't expecting 2 quad bikes
( side-by-side ) on a quiet country road.
but unfortunately for the poor lass who died,
quad bikes ARE NOT.
& can the police really afford be seen as inactive regarding the Law of the Land, again?
E.G. people owning & keeping illegal dogs,
the police did nothing, even after owners were reported innocent children died as a result of their lack of interest.
so it was inevitable the father would be arrested at some point, but the fact that the prisons are full, he's full of remorse & will probably say he didn't realise it was illegal, will be taken into account.
if he's really stupid he'll come up with
"Everybody Else Does It"!
like that makes it alright?

has he suffered enough to warrant ignorance from prosecution?
that will be up to the CPS.

if they really want to get some respect back from the general public & make a statement that they are not slack when it comes to parental responsibility,
they should take him to court, if it deters another parent from making the same stupid deadly mistake,
I think it will be worth it.

but I'm not the CPS.

thanx4BA.
it's a very sad story, with no winners only losers. Report It

I think he has suffered enough but do think he was really stupid.

''Police said it was illegal for anyone under 16 to ride a quadbike on a public road''

He may have suffered but it wasn't for his foolish actions of letting a 7 year old ride on a public road she wouldn't be dead
He and his wife are responsible for buying their daughter that quad bike, they should both be charged

Agree with Yahooyah, but I guess the police have to take some action.

edit: so many people on this site who've never made a stupid mistake. Aren't we the perfect ones then?

edit: Dr Watson I do agree, sometimes I just get fed up with all these sanctimonious remarks. But he has been arrested, he will go to court, and I bet he regrets his stupidity. I did say the police need to do something, it brings attention to these tragedies, as I posted before Nicholas Soames was doing similar things two days later.

edit. sorry, read it wrong, thought he was being charged.

He put both his children's lives at risks by letting them ride powerful vehicles illegally on a public road in the dark, and he didn't even take her straight to hospital after she was hit by a landrover. Yes I do think he should be charged.

Yahoo .............. who has suffered here? The father or the girl who will never grow up. Never have children. Never experience life.

And all because her father encouraged her to commit an illegal act.

Yeah the father has really paid the penalty hasnt he?

This is just like the McCann case, it appears that as long as its your own kid that dies, it doesnt matter if you played a role in it, your 'suffering' should exempt you from facing the law for your actions.

Crap.

The girl suffered. Thats it. And all of those ....... including her father ....... who were responsible should have to face the penalty for it.

I would like to see both parents in a room with a huge blow up poster of their daughter right in front of them for a few years...then it might sink in.

Do we know what he's being charged with? I think he should be charged (depending on what it is) but not sure about jail, a short sentence maybe.

Dave s, the difference is, the police have actually arrested him.

He isn't the one who has suffered the most. His daughter has.Her life was cut short through her parents ignorance.

Ern T - yes we all make the odd stupid mistake but letting a 7 year old ride a quad bike anywhere is more than stupid it's completely mental (don't really like disagreeing with you but I do on this occasion)

I think the parents have suffered enough.

Well the child was under the "care" of her father, guess that means he is responsible.
You just don`t put your kids at risk in this way. If you do you should be punished, whoever you are.
Where the heck was the mother?

His kids were on quad bikes on a public highway. It is illegal. He must have known so he is responsible not the other driver.
Harsh but true.

What I don't get is why would you buy buy a 7 year-old who is more than double the legal age your allowed to drive a quad-bike ? Are parents really that stupid these days ? You say she won't face charges but that probaly is because of the full prisions, I think the parents should be sent to parent school for 3 months for that ridiculous idea of letting a 7 year-old drive a quad-bike. And that's the word.

I don't think jail is the right thing but I do think he should face some penalties for letting a 7 year old drive the quad (which apparently was her own..a Christmas gift), the law clearly states drivers must be 16 years old to drive on a public road. She was not even close.

If I were the person who hit her, I think I would consider suing the father. Can you imagine the nightmares the other driver is going through and the anguish that never goes away?

Isn't there an offence of failing to provide medical attention? or something similar? That seems even worse than the rest to me.

he has suffered enough, but should have known better

oh that is so sad,,,but how many parents have gone away and bought presents like quads and expect children to follow the rules of the road, to which I don't even know,, as I don't drive...

In answer to the question I would think he is suffering now and will for the rest of his life..

So he should be ! No one thinks about the shock suffered by the poor lady who was driving the car. He was responsible for the death of a child, he should pay !

he should be left in a quiet room with a revolver and one round of ammunition.
