What kind of dirtbike should i get?

I am 15 and i am like 5 feet 6 inches. I weigh 135. Right now i have a Pit bike.I want to get a new bike and i am looking to get good and maybe race.I dont Know if i should get a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke. If i were to get a 2 stroke i would get the kx125 or the cf125 and if i were to get a 4 stroke i would get the crf250r,kx250f. Tell me what you think should get a 4 stroke or a 2 stroke.(keeping the price in mind)

just due to weight i would say the 2 stroke kx125.
good luck becareful and have fun! i love riding!

I would stick with the Honda's they're well built and the most reliable.....Also stay with the 4 Stroke's they're easier to work on....and have just as much power as the old 2 strokes. Also the new one's are CRF 150 R. Hope this helps.

go with a cr85x my brother has one and he is 13 and wieghs 140

don't get a 2 stroke since they are gonna stop making them in the near future parts are gonna be harder to find.. go to a dealership and sit on some bikes and pick out which 1 fits you the best.. i would recomend the crf230 because if you get a 150 your gonna grow out of it in less then a year

oh and you can't ride a 250 they are way tall bikes i'm 5'11" and i'm on my tippy toes

If you are experienced enough, then the 230 4 banger will work just as well as the 2 banger. Oh man, I love the sound of the 2's, but the 4's run smoother and cooler, and seem to take less engine abuse. If your a beginner, every young man should start off with something like the yz80 or equivalent. Just my opinion.

The 250f four stroke motocross bikes are easier to be fast on because they have good power from just off idle all the way to around 11,000 rpm. The 125 2-stroke mx bikes have good power but you have to keep the rpm's high to keep it in the good power range. Starting on the 125 in my opinion will make you a better rider when you switch to the 250 four stroke. Most tracks have a class called school boy for your age group which is only allowed the 2 stroke.
mx bikes are usually ridden hard so the most important thing is to buy one that is already in good shape if you are buying used.
Maintance on the 2 stroke is around half the cost as the 4 stroke and especally if you or your dad are doing the work the 2 stroke is way easier.
Everyone seems to think that you cant win against the 4 strokes riding a 2 stroke but me and my 15 yr old son do.
it comes down to the better rider wins regardless of thier choice. If money were no concern I would pick the 4 stroke because they are less tiring on an open mx track in a race.
we own
YZ-85 bored to 105 ported for top end running on race gas
KX-125 bored to 144-same
yz 250 ported for mid to top end running on race gas
RM-250 -same
You only need race gas if you have higher than stock compression otherwise run premium unleaded
You are plenty tall enough for the 125 or 250f my son is 5' 3"
130 lbs
If you want to race that is your choices. You are too big to win on the 85's (ours is now my wifes' 5' 2' 110 lbs which is the target size for the 85) and the other sizes are for play riding in a field or woods like the ttr's , xr's , crf 230 ect.
My son races the 125 and 250 two strokes.
A later post talks about noone winning on a 2 stroke. If you was already a top a class or pro rider where winning or losing is determined by a fraction of a second per lap and you had the money to buy a new bike then put $3000 into making it faster( because a stock 250f wont keep up with the bikes those guys are riding) Then a 4stroke would be your only choice. You wont be at that level for at least a year or two if you are dedicated and make racing your life. Thats why my son is riding the 250 two stroke against the 450's this year.
In the lites class at the top level it is all about power which takes lots of money to keep and maintain that bike. the 250 two stroke when it is ported and set up right has as much power as anyone can use. A 125 has as much power as you can use and you can easily win against the c and then b class riders you are going up against these next couple of years. right now it is all about fun and being able to afford to ride. Just to get out there and line up at the gate is the most important thing. If you like excitement you'll keep going and find a way to make everything work after that.

Get a crf250, itll be worth it in the long run 4 strokes are just better, and easyer to ride. i can cruise up a sand hill in third and the thing wont stall try that with a 2 stroke

mx is the only one who knows what he's talking about, everything he said is spot on.

if you decide on 2 stroke: yz125 is the best choice by far (except 2002-2004 model), honda hasn't made a very good 125 ever since they went to the 5 speed trans. in 1998, kx125 from 2003 and newer are ok too. same with suzuki.

if 4 stroke: stay away from 2004-2005 kx250f and rmz250, these are know to have valve and overheating problems. 2004 crf250 also had valve issues. yz250f is the solid choice for reliability and power

Okay..lets start off by correcting some of the things said here. Honda's (although I race a CRF250R myself) are no better built and no more reliable than Kawasaki. There is no such thing as a CR85X and you are too tall for an 85 anyway. You just said you wanted a MX bike and may race in the future so why would anyone suggest a CRF230 play bike? The same person also said you cannot ride a 250 because it is too tall. That is just ignorance, a 125 and 250 are the same height. 4 strokes do not run cooler they over heat easier. Seriously people, I know everyone wants to give their opinion and get a few points but when someone is looking to spend thousands of dollars on a bike don't give advice if you don't know what you are talking about. As far as the 2 versus 4 stroke goes. If you plan to race you really should get a 4 stroke. I race almost every weekend and I can tell you that at the 5 tracks I run there is usually 1 or 2 125's and 30 or so 250F's in the lites class. The 125's just cannot compete anymore. I haven't seen a 2 stroke win a motocross race in several years now. There is a reason for that...
