My pit bike won't start as the air/fuel mixture on my carburettor is wrong. How do I fix this? |
Hi, on the carb there is a screw that changes the mixture of air to fuel. I can fiddle with it after about an hour and then manage to get it to start. I will then go out and ride it for a good 4 and a half hours (every Sunday) but it won't rev very well and then on the next day It won't start again and the mixture needs fixing again. Please help. Also is anyone not needing a pit bike engine that will fit a honda crf50 frame or any pit bike except thumpstar, I need to upgrade my power (can pay for postage) Thanks. screw it in gently, then screw it out one and one half turns. If your problem exists, then its not the air mix screw its some other problem. Try a bigger main jet, or take the air filter off and check air flow. If the spark plug is very dark then it may be too rich, but then its strange it runs for 4 hrs.... weird I think its time for a rebuild. the spring on the air screw isnt doing its job. as you thrash it across the fields its vibrating like hell... either remove the screw and wrap some PTFE tape around it, or put some gaffer tape on it, so you san see where to screw it back to.. and removing teh air filter and chopping the exhaust is just going generate noise.. it will acutally go slower... i thought we stopped all this fiddling 30yrs ago when i owned a triumph... Try a new spark plug and plug lead and notice the colour of the plug when you take it out...mixture screw should be adjusted at a half turn a time |
