I am gettting my first geared bike, but I am having concerns? |
I am getting my first geared bike soon, but I am having concerns. I used to have a 70cc semi-auto pit bike which I flipped the first time I went on it. Then I got my modified yamaha moped (does around 65, bored out, and race pipe). I am currently using this as I am 16 but my dad wants to buy me a DT125 with 6 gears (fully manual), and its what I want to get aswell. But I have concerns about getting used to it, flipping it, not being able to handle it, etc. Is a bike like this hard to handle? I am having a lesson down at a place called Cardrome, to get me used to a geared bike, but it will be on the company's 125cc. Any help, suggestions or information would be great. Thanks! The DT125 is a perfect bike for your skill level. Since you already know how to keep your balance, all you need to do is to practice releasing the clutch ( in your head ). Once you have gone over the sequence of putting the bike in gear and "slowly" releasing the clutch as you apply a slight bit of throttle, you'll master it quickly. Go over the sequence in your mind as you lie in bed, sit by the pool, or sit in font of the TV. Once you get on the bike itself, you'll be surprised how fast you learn. But be confident...as fear can only get you hurt. Don't let that earlier "flip" freak you out....you're graduating to a "real" motorcycle now..and you'll do just fine if you always respect the power and capability of that machine. You're one lucky young man to have a Dad that supports your pastime so well. Good Luck! If you already know how to ride a moped (that can go 65) you won't have too much problems. I went from moped (40 MPH max) to 400cc Yamaha (6 speed). The only difference was that I already drove a stick shift (car) for about 2 years in between. But you are talking about 125 so it wouldn't be too much power anyway. Just have somebody show you how to operate the clutch. Clutch is some things that hard to learn just by reading about it or just watch somebody do it. No worries man. Once you get used to the clutch, which should only take an hour or less you will be fine. Just take it easy, dont get flustered and you'll be fine! yeah just take it easy 2 start off it would 2 easyer 2 flip a 2 stroke than a 4 stroke as it has more power de bike u get a lesson on probably will be a 4 stroke biker 4 many years The gears aren't the issue with flipping it, you right wrist is. Calm down with the throttle and you'll be fine. |
