What can I do about my neighbors pit bull dog running loose? |
We recently moved and our neighbors let their pit bull dog run loose on a daily basis. When we first moved in I let them know that my family is afraid of the dog. They continued to let the dog run loose. I confronted them again concerning the dog when he agressively came toward me and my son while mowing the lawn. Both times they immediately apologized and restrained the dog. I reserached the leash laws here in Desoto, TX and wrote a letter on 06/07/06 to my neighbors and Animal Control. I had planned to send it, but they began restraing the dog and I felt it was unecessary and that maybe the situation was under control. Well, for the past 5 days the dog has been loose. He chased my son on his bike. He chased my brother-in-law to his car. Should I go ahead and contact Animal Control, or send the letter. I am really at my ropes end and thought about shooting the dog. Somebody please give me some advice. Go talk to the neighbor ASAP. Lay it on the line that if they cannot keep their dog in their yard you will call animal control and the cops and the national guard and the local TV station. Be nice but firm. Then if the dog is seen loose again at least you have exhausted every option and it will be your neighbors fault if the animal is put down. I own a pitbull and he stays in a large fenced in area unless I take him out in the woods with me where there is no one else around. Your neighbor should shoulder some responsibility. call the police, my husband is a texas cop and deals with this all the time Shoot it. contact animal control the breed of the dog is irrelevant - no dog should be running loose Have you thought about their feelings? If you call animal control, the dog will be taken and killed. You will be responsible for ending the dogs life. The neighbors will miss a valued member of their family, and you will give them such grief just because their dog is excitable? I hate people like you. You people killed my dog, and I loved that girl. So go ahead, murder their dog. I'm sure you're neighbors will love you for killing an animal as amazing as their dog. Yes, contact Animal Control. Aggressive or not, pit bull or not, no dog should be allowed to just run loose around the neighborhood if there are leash laws in effect. They are there for a reason. Call animal control and the police. Don't shoot it, or you're in trouble. |
