On go peds (petrol scooter) whats the difference between clutch and spindle driven?

What is the diferce betweeen them, also you know when you start up petrol scooters / gopeds do the whell spin to start off with or do u have to apply throtlle this kinda ties with the main question do u have to have a clutch for tht to happen and change gear.?

a spindle drive is just the out put drive from the gearbox, sometimes they have a clutch on where you have a clutch lever to use it and sometimes they have a centrafugal clutch which is spring loaded and does not have a manual way of engaging it. as you rev the engine it spins faster and starts to splay outwards and bind against a bell to give you drive which is also the answer to you second question. you may find if the rear wheel is off the ground it will spin slowly but if it was on the ground the clutch would slip and it wont go anywere until you give it some throttle
