Mud guard question on a mountain bike? |
I have a mountain bike and the derailer cables run down the UNDERSIDE of the bottom bar. I am thinking of putting a mud guard on the underside of this bottom bar, but surely the cables are in the way???? I am a novice, so i might be wrong, but what options do i have for some mudguards?? Thanks depends why you want to put mudguards.. Stores sell mudguards that are clipped on to your seat. Not to your frame so it wouldn't affect your chain, in anyway. Although, if you have an expensive bike, mudguards looks kinda cheeky, Mine do too. I fix my mudguard (a 'crudguard') using rubber band things that pass underneath the cables so that they are still free and the mudguard is fixed firmly. A bit fiddly to fix, but it can be done. Go for a crud card. Cheap and easy to attach. Find one here http://www.evanscycles.com/product.jsp?s... There are diferent kinds of crud guards. So go to a good store and get one that fits your bike cable lay out. I found this ebay guide on Bicycles very interesting. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2... Instead of using a down tube mounted mudguard such as a crud catcher that can get in the way of your gear cables (my marin is like this) you can use mudguards that mount onto your forks. topeak make one called the defender, it fits inside the steerer tube of the fork. google it, but wiggle.com and chainreactioncycles.com both sell them. google topeak defender, or better, go see your local bike shop, there are others out there that are similar. hope this helps take it easy... |
