What is the best mountain bike under 1000 dollars? |
i am looking for a good mountain bike for trail riding and drops as well as being around $1000 There are almost no true mountain bikes under $1000.00 but from your explanation you are looking for an "all terrain bike" or ATB. ATB's are usually front suspension bikes. You really don't need energy robbing full suspension for the vast majority of trail riding, and proper technique will get you over the drops with no problem. Keep in mind, that when you ride a full suspension bike, every time you pedal the suspension flexes, so instead of your energy going to the back wheel it gets eaten in the shocks. Also, a hardtail will be MUCH lighter and better equipped for the same money. That being said, I would recommend a nice hardtail bike, maybe a Diamondback Axis (around $1100) or a Diamondback Response Comp (around $900) will probably be your best value. Other bikes to consider would be a KHS Alite 2000 ($850) or Alite 3000 ($1100). I like Diamondback (a product of Raleigh USA) because they seem to have slightly better components for the same money. Trek is nice too, but they are more money for a lower quality bike. KHS is also a great choice for hardtails. Their frames are well engineered and they tend to use "matched" components rather than picking and choosing for price instead of quality. They can be hard to find though. Source(s): 26 years in the industry My first mountain bike was a mongoose. its around 400. then I switched to a GT . its around 1900. I wish I would have kept my mongoose here's where I would start looking: http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/allmtn_full_... http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/allmtn_full_... Specialized rock hopper, hard tail full suspesion, depends on what kind of riding you do? used hard tail KONA or Trek or specialized are all really good. |
