Im thinking of buying a new mountain bike i need help? |
Im thinking of an all suspention bike (all mountain) and planning to spend between $1500.00 and $2000.00 U.S Any sugetions? u should consider getting companys like haro,kona,norco,specialized,tr... and gt. start with kona, specialized and giant they make good bikes and they are cheap for bikes within the same range. for kona look for stuff, lavadom or scrap norco:shore series haro:v series specialized:any thing they are all good and cheap ironhorse:make almost unbreakable bikes but they are heavy banshee:morphine series before buying the bike make sure that the dimonds of the frame should be small and points upwards the tyres should be wide and with lots of rubber studs. the fork should have atleast 100mm of travel better if beond 130mm. the suspention brand that you should look for is marzochii or rock shock they are the most common ones. if you dont like the suspention then you might consider spending an other 500$ on bomber shocks they are good qualityed stuff. i recomand a hard tail because they are easier to ride up hill and gives lots of air. and is cheaper and lighter. you should look for disk breaks but if the bike dont come with them v breaks are good too exept over time they dig into your rim and shorten the rim's life. u might want to make sure that the bike fits you because if it doesn't injurys can occur more often. the suspention should be the full lengthed ones(the kind that goes from the wheels althe way to the handlebars) these types of suspention is good for all moutain because they can hadle more abuse than the regular kind and depends on the way u like to ride u can even take down one of the tubes and ride with only half of the fork. if u decid to ride very often then u might want ur rear shock to be at least five inches long so that ur a55 dont take as big of a beating. and u should consider the spring kind because they are cheaper and last longer. the hydrolic kind should not be exposed to water because as soon as water gets in u need a new one. make sure that the frame is as good as ur suspention because if they are not good enough they will crack or snap. don't worry about the weight because for all moutain frames the heavyer the stronger. and for more strengh u might want a ticarbon frame insted of aluminum(carbon or alloy rims). make sure that your breaks are tuned up and don't have any problems or else the out come won't be pretty. You can't get anything for less. Specialized makes a good one for that. Get a Trex. Coach Git a trek. theyre da best I've tried many specialized bikes over the years and they are indeed good bikes. In the last 2 years, I tried out new norco bikes. They are by far better than specialized in my opinion and they can sometimes cost less. I bought the Norco Six One recently and it is by far the best bike I've ever ridden. Specialized is the way to go. Get a stumpjumper or Enduro. you migth also go for a Trek Session Or cannondale Gemini. the gemini is around $2400 but its a sick looking downhill bike so you should check that out too. There are a lot of variables you need to decide first. A good place to start is how much travel do you want in your bike? You can get a XC bike with 80mm in the front and 3.5 in the rear all the way to a downhill rig with 10 inches in the rear. You mention an all mountain bike. All-Mountain or trail bikes usually have 100mm in the front and ~4.5 in the rear. Several well-known bikes would be a Trek Fuel EX, Giant Trance, Specialized FSR, Cannondale Rush, Specialized Stumpjumper. But for the price you are looking to spend, there are many many other companies that would also fit into what you are looking (Santa Cruz, Kona, Rocky Mountain, KHS, Turner, etc.) Next you should worry about how the bike fits you. If you are spending upwards of $2000 on a bike, you better make sure it fits you well or you won't have any fun riding it. Go to a few local bike shops and see what they have in your size. Right now a lot of bike shops are getting the 2007 models in so they are discounting the 2006 bikes. Most bikes you see now in your price range will be good bikes. It just boils down to what you like. |
