What is a good 26. in wheel mountain bike?? |
i'm looking a good hardtail mountain bike that costs under $500. Jamis makes several decent hardtails around $500. I've found that they are putting more into their bikes for the money than are Specialized, Trek, Gary Fisher, etc. I ride a Jamis Dakar XC Comp that retails for $1,800 which is about $400 less than a comparably equipped Specialized or Trek. But, find a local bike shop and take some test rides; don't buy a bike without riding it first to make sure it fits you and your needs; you'll regret it if you do. All of the major brands have their pluses and minuses; it will come down to what you really like; when you get on the bike for you, you'll know it. Just stay away from Wal-Mart, Target, Academy, and the like; the bikes they sell won't stand up to any use at all; believe me, I started with a bargain bike and trashed it very quickly. Click on the links below to do a bit of research. Good luck! Source(s): http://www.jamisbikes.com http://www.specialized.com http://www.trekbikes.com http://www.fisherbikes.com http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/... All of the major manufactures offer a hard tail in the $500 price range. Go to your local bike shop and tell them what your budget is. With the 2008 models on the way you should be able to get a very good deal on an older model. If you don't have a preferred brand both Scott and KHS aways seem the have well spec'd bikes for the dollar. At this range, you can get a hardtail with a disc brake which is way better than the v-brakes that wears down your tire rims. My recommendation, Specialized Hardrock. Rock-solid bike frame with quality saddle, pedals, and a decent front shock. Other brands you can look at is Trek which has a large inventory of hardtails. But these are the only brands I would consider at that price range. trek is ok but specialized is awesome it rocks and yeah. Definitely go with a hard tail aluminum frame. Do your component research. I particularly like Giant http://www.giantbicycles.com or Forge http://wwww.forgebikes.com Forge has excellent reviews on http://www.mtbr.com, a mountain bike forum of mountain bike riders. Out of many of my bicycles I own the Forge Sawback 5xx, I've owned this for over 2 years and have had no problems. Very impressive bikes for the price. Or I would suggest the Trek 6000. Best of luck....! Work in a bike shop. Biker for many years. |
