I'm 5'2", what size comfort or mountain bike frame should I get? |
I want either a comfort or a mountain bike. My inseam is 28". There is no way a 5' 2 " dude is riding no 27" frame size. I think he's confused wheel size with frame size. If you have a 28" inseam then I'd say the quick answer is you want a small or 14 to 15 inch mtn bike frame. However, it gets more complicated than that. Everyone is built a little differently, so most cycling fit instructions for mountain bikes are emphasizing top tube length as a more important dimension than seat tube length, which is what's described in frame size. Here are some links to frame sizing on the web from two of the more reputable sites out there. http://www.sheldonbrown.com/frame-sizing... http://www.coloradocyclist.com/bikefit/s... After reading this though the best answer is to go to a local shop and try a few bikes out, and welcome to the Mountain biking community. If you really want to get into mountain biking I would recommend you check out http://www.mtbr.com especially the bike and parts reviews and the forums are really helpful too. As to the comfort bike thing, i's agin' 'em, they are as useful as t!ts on a boar, and this is coming from a guy that owns 8 bikes. I have a 27 inch and I'm 5'2. The formula for fitting yourself to a mountain bike frame is: 0.60 X the inseam of your pants = length of seat tube Example: if your inseam on your pants is 28 inches then 0.60 X 28 inches = 16.8 or a 17 inch frame |
