Will Dura Ace shifting cable/housing set fit my mountain bike? |
Do road cables fit mountain bike components? I have 8 speed XT rapidfire combo shifters/levers, v-breaks, front der. and XTR rear der. Shifting Yes, Brake NO!!!!!!!! Source(s): http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bicyclingh... Yes that is the exact same one I put on my bike and they recommend it at the store. But to be on the safe side ask the people at the store they are usually honest about that Yes, but the point of the Dura Ace (XTR) group is light weight. The point of the Ultegra (XT) group is the lightest weight you can get without sacrafice of reliability. Perhaps you would be happier with Ultegra level and the higher reliability? Jagwire, Ultegra, XT, LX, 105, and similar do not "cable stretch" and they are all more durable than Dura Ace (XTR), with very little difference to weight. In many cases, the aftermarket has better results. Be sure to ask at the bike shop and mountain bike club. Also, you might check the cable ends, ferrules, to see if they seat or if they wander. This can make for extremely frequent adjustment needs. A zip tie or a thicker ferrule can stop the existing cable from changing alignment and end the frequent adjustment issue. Of course, the need for good cables is quite common, but do check the alignment of your current cables because, and in that case, new cables would not enhance performance if the old cables were not at fault. All that said, Shimano-branded "regular" shift cables are perhaps the very worst for cable stretch and frequent adjustment needs. If that's the case, an upgrade is a great idea. And, yes, Ultegra/Dura Ace fits XT/XTR especially well--because it is the same product. |
