How long will my umm, girl parts, continue to hurt from riding my mountain bike? |
I've just began to cycle again. I had been running quite a bit and got injured. To stay strong, I have been riding my mountain bike @least 5 times a week for almost a month and in order to get a good workout, I ride or use a trainer for at least an hour at at time. My crotch still hurts! I've been fitted for my bike, I've got the gel seat, nice bike shorts, I've done everything but that's what's ending my workout. How long does it take to toughen up? some good answers here. A definite on tilting the nose down, and swapping out the saddle. go to a bike store that will let you swap saddles until you get one you like- REI and Performance certainly do. And find a shop that has a woman working there and swap data with her! Try tilting the back of your seat up and pushing the front of the seat down. That should lesses the pressure...um...up front. ;) You might have too much padding, or your seat might be too narrow. Women have larger sit bones than men, so their saddles need to be wider. Also, too much padding, gel seat on top of a chamois, can actually cause trouble. If your still getting discomfort after that long either go to a shop to have them check your riding position or ditch that saddle! it should only take about 2 weeks on average for the discomfort to go away. I would also highly recommend an anatomically correct (ladies) saddle if your not already using one as most bikes come stock with narrow saddles aimed at men and therefore do not provide adequate support, do yourself a favor when you buy a saddle and spend some money! at least $50cdn, I would recommend a Terry saddle or Serfas (comes with a comfort guarantee) both of which I see very few of returned (we have a 2 week trial at the shop i work at) almost 20 years working in shops All the answers are pretty good but how about: Do you wear underwear under your shorts? DON'T. The extra layer can be a source of serious chafing. This is a major error that a lot of people make. Also, always wear freshly cleaned shorts (duh). Try moving your seat slightly forward. If you move the seat forward you won't lean so far forward and you may roll your hips a little forward - both things should help. Keep in mind, whatever distance you move the saddle forward you should move the saddle up (ie 1/2-cm forward = 1/2-cm up). Assuming that you aren't already all the way forward on the saddle rails. There are certain parts of your body that you shouldn't "toughen up." GET A NICE SEAT brooks saddles from england makes a seat that is for women and is not like sitting on a cloth and gel covered brick |
