I am 5'71/2 inches in height, what size of mountain bike fits me? |
Is the 14 inch frame mountain bike size fits me? Go to a bike shop and get fitted. One of the worst mistakes cyclists make is riding the wrong size bike. The shop cna fit you and suggest frames and setups to ensure the most comfortable, efficient fit for your body. I can't stress it enough, don't buy ANYTHING until you get fitted! A height measurement is NOT enough information to fit you on a bike. Sizing requires fit by inseam, outseam, standover height, arm length, torso length, etc. It's very personal. Source(s): Cyclist, triathlete and bike store b*tch I'd guess 16 - 17 inch, but manufacturers vary and it depends on your reach as well as your inside leg measurements. You want to be able to stand over the bike with your feet on the floor and have an inch clearance between the top-tube and your crotch. Seat height - when riding you want your leg at the bottom of the pedal-stroke to be straight, not stretched, but straight. It's nice to be able to lower the seat when riding extreme off road, so downward adjustment is desirable. If you can, let a local bike shop size you up with a bike, it's always for the best. GET A 17 0R 18----medium for other rigs that don't specify sizes. Its BEST to go to a bike shop and TEST DRIVE a bike so you can get the FEEL. 17 or 18. This is pretty standard. Try on the bike and adjust the seats. Due to the nature of trail biking, for mountain bikes, it is important that both your feet can touch the ground while you are seated. You can try out the bike trail at bukit timah hill for a start. You are going to be somewhere between a 15 and 17 inch frame if I had to guess. All of the other answers here are correct but keep one other thing in mind. It is not only important to think about the bike's height, but also length. For example, I take a 17 inch Trek but a 16 inch Gary Fisher. That is because Gary Fisher tend to make their bikes longer and more agressive than Treks. Be sure to test ride a frame for comfort rather than just going by the frame size. Go to a bike shop or sporting goods store and have a salesperson help you. I am about 5' 7" and tried both a Trek 16" and a Gary Fisher 17.5". I was told the 17.5" was the size I should go with. |
