Forestry commission having volunteer mountain bike rangers?

Mountain bikers out there do you think its a good thing or a bad thing. I can see the health and safety side of it, but the other side is big brother watching and telling you what to do even when out mountain biking

it is a bit of a hard one really. The forestry commission has done an awful lot for biking in Scotland. I stay on the west coast near Glasgow and I can go to places like glen tress, carron valley, and even the Ben Nevis trail. These would not be around if it wasn't for the forestry commission so if they want to put someone on these trails to make sure they are being used and maintained properly, then that's OK with me.

This is the first I have heard about rangers being on the trails and it is something I am going to look into further. Lets hope they are doing this for the right reasons and not, like you said, acting like big brother.
The North York Moors has a ranger service (on foot) and they are all quite chilled out people who help out if you are stuck. They will nod a hello as you pass and thats about it, unless you talk to them they generally dont bother you.

If the mountain bike rangers are simularly chilled then it is a good thing. They can cover more ground to look out for problems and talk to them - they will be bikers too who enjoy the sport so wont want to do anything against it/
