Mountain bike front suspension question - help needed!!? |
Ok, this may be a silly question, but I am honestly clueless here. I have a 2005 Trek 4300, on the bottom of the front fork, there is a screw on each side (allen wrench screw). When I take it off, it is just plugging a hole. Some kind of lubricant goes in that hole I would assume since the shocks are not air shocks. Grease, oil, nothing? Any help is greatly appreciated!! The whole front of the bike makes creaking sounds when I ride trails, thinking the shocks are part of the problem. Working with shocks isn't trivial. Sheldon Brown has a nice step by step guide, follow the link. http://sheldonbrown.com/cannondale-heads... Good luck. Source(s): http://sheldonbrown.com/cannondale-heads... My Mtn bike was creaking in the front end and I couldn't find it for anything. Then one day SRRONNNNGGGGGG and the skewer flies right out because the axel snapped! Thankfully I was only a mile from my jeep. Changed the back axel pronto! I think , that there inside the fork is spring . Hope it help . By the punch google and fork maker, you can get in to bicycle forks , blueprints , maintenance and so on ....... It depends what type of fork you have not what bike you have. Different forks have air, oil, coil springs and are designed differently. Visit a bike shop - they could usually tell you. Or Google for your brand, model and year. You will run across maintenance articles for sure. Or ask people that you ride with, someone may know. If you bought it new fork info comes with the bike. Dig it up. my forks are the same way i spray wet lube not grease in and if i some how git into deep water and it gits in y shocks i drean them from that hole. |
