Help with a new mountain bike?

Hey, I just got a new Huffy moutain bike today. The left shifter or whatever you want to call it has numbers 1 to 3 on it, with large gaps in between. The right side has numbers 1 to 6 on it. When shifting around, most of the time the chain starts making the clicking sound and the pedalling resistance becomes too light. Is this because the bike is new and needs to be broken in or what? My old Huffy wasn't like this and it's set up the same way, just an older bike. Is there like a proper way to shift it so it rides nicely?

Probably just that the cables have stretched. They never come pre-stretched from the factory.

You don't sound like this is something you want to do (all the adjustments), so here is what to do:

Bring it back to where you bought it if they do tune-ups there. they should do this first tune for free (our store give 2yrs tunes with each sale).

If where you bought it doesn't do tunes, bring it somewhere that does, and pay for the whole tune up. They will get the gears and brakes right, and make sure everything is on there properly. If they don't do tuneups at the store, they probably pay someone for each bike they build, and they just fly through them. The tune will be well worth the money Source(s): Work in a bike shop
this is one of the main reasons why you NEVER buy any bike (like a Huffy) from a big box store (like Kmart, Walmart, etc.)

the bikes are crappy to begin with, and they are put together by kids who have no idea what they are doing, and then when something breaks, the repair costs more than what you paid for the bike in the first place

go to a real bike shop, check out KHS, Trek, Specialized, and Giant
get fitted
plan on spending at least 300 to 500 bucks for something which will last a long time!
It's a Huffy, what do you expect ? Sorry, but they're bottom end bikes, and won't hold up to any serious riding.
Poor thing. Should have asked the question about which bike to buy before buying the Huffy. Hope you didn't spend too much on it. Why not give it to someone else and buy a proper brand like Uncleneal suggested?

I think Specialized and Giant are good brands.
