What type of mountain bike stem is best for me? |
i have a gt avalanche 2.0. my handlebar stem is slightly raised and not very long, my last bike had a much longer stem and was not as raised. i ride on road and trail could any one tell me which type of stem would be better for me? thanks Too many different ones out there to give a definitive answer. Ride round to your local bike shop- show them what you have, and tell them how you'd like it to be different- sure they'll help Wiggle.co.uk have a huge selection of every type of part and accessory- with good descriptions and illustrations- their prices and service are good too; so they might also be worth a visit, if only for research. it really depends on what you're comfortable with, is your bike comfortable to ride as it is? if yes, leave it as it is. Riding on road i'd suggest a medium to long stem with a slight rise. If you still have your old bike there's a good chance you could swap your old stem onto the new bike if you wanted too get yourself and your bike to a local bike shop and get fitted this will ensure that your entire bike is set up to your body it is worth the extra effort for much more efficient and comfortable riding http://www.specialized.com shorter stems are usually for downhill and med-longer stems more suited to road and cross country. However it all boils down to what your comfortable with. Good luck All depends what you ride, if you ride all downhill. You will need to get a shorty stem, about 50mm. If you ride XC than you will need to get a 90mm to 110mm stem. If you want an all around good stem, stick with 70mm. Thats what I have a specialized 70mm stem. 6 months of mtb |
