What is a good mountain bike? |
Im looking for a bike that will be used for transport to work, long distance rides will also hit some trails with it but nothing too extreme.Looking to spend no more that $600. If you can attach links that have pics, stats, and prices. Thanks visit your local bike shop. I would look at the Specialized Rockhopper line of bikes. The base model costs $520, or you can get it with disc brakes for $660. Both will cost slightly less in a bike shop. Maybe $480 and $620. For your type of riding a hardtail will be much better than a bike with full suspension. I would also look at Fuji's bikes. the Nevada 1.0 retails at $580 and you should also look at their tahoe line. The Tahoe comp retails at $800. Mountain bike tires are wide, generally 1.75 inch or even more with nodes for increasing traction (needed for slippery mountain dirt road). For general transportation you need a lightweight (remember MTB are always very heavy) and sleek tire (1-1.25 inch) with almost no node tire for a smooth ride. If you have $600, why don鈥檛 you not look for Trek 1000 Road bike (Alpha Aluminum) ? Check for different dealer location from www.Trekbikes.com. I am sure some dealer will get you in that price. This is light and fast. I have a Trek 1500. Only issue is TREK is a good bike but comparatively expensive. Look for www.PerformanceBike.com or www.Nashbar.com. You will get an idea about "Road Bike" price. Good luck. One more thing to remember, Mountain Bikes are not very smooth to ride on street road. If you need to speed up or maintain the same speed of the traffic, say at 15-20 miles /hr atleast, you will be lost. Look for any light weight, sleek tire road bike or city road bike. Shimano LX,XT or SRAM grip Shifters and no mediocre parts! Get your size,buy spares ( tubes,chain,lube, cables) and you're ready to rock! |
