I haven't used my mountain bike (muddyfox rogue) for ~1 1/2 years...do i need to service it? |
hi all, like i said before i haven't used my bike in ages and before then only used it recreationally (on the road) 3-4 times a week. i stopped when i punctured the tyre and failed miserably trying to fix it myself. before the puncture i had the bike for 3 months, (bought brand new). its been kept indoors ever since. i'm taking it to the local shop to get the tyre fixed anyways - should I get it serviced as well? or can I just jump on it (after pumping up the tyres myself) and ride away??? thanks in advance, jebus (a complete and utter newb)... You should be able to just jump on and ride. Fixing a bike tire is a piece of cake, as is adjusting the gears. Often times, the first attempt at doing a job you've never done becomes a somewhat horrific event. I remember the first time I changed front brakes on my car it took me several hours. Now, I can change out front brakes in about 15 minutes. You should give the bike tire another attempt yourself. If you cannot patch the tire (and you probably can) replacing the tube is even easier. I learned everything I know about fixing a bike just from looking at it and playing around a little. I'm no mechanic. If I can fix a bike, so can you. ----------------------- Forget those comments about oiling everything up. Most casual riders put way too much oil on their bikes. The more oil you put on the parts, the more dirt those parts collect. You should, just to be on the safe side just pump up the tires and oil the wheels and stuff i dont think you should yes you should just to mack sure ever thing works right You would at least need to oil the chain, but enerything else should be fine. Yes. |
