How to take care of my mountain bike? |
how long must i grease my bike again after each time? will i get rust at the suspension? how to prevent rust on bike if i'm leaving it at outdoor? Oil is good, but be carefull with WD40. After a short time it can attract dirt. The first thing that I would do is buy a bike cover. This will stop water from staying in contact with the frame. OK forks. Forks tend to be chrome, or white metal. Autosol white should do the trick. But generally, as long as you keep the rubber covers over the top of the seals, it should be ok. For the chain, re-lube every 40 - 50 miles of riding, unless you are doing lots of muddy XC work. Use babywhipes to clean the chain, or for real sticky stuff, use white spirite. Often, just running a rag over your chain at the end of a ride will help. But re-lube at the end. Cables. You should be able to take cables off off the frame and run a oily rag over the metal. I would do a general clean at the end of each ride, if muddy. Make sure that your derailures are clean and perhaps put a drop of chain wax on them, the same with SPDs. Luck I'd keep it indoors. If it has to stay out, use motor oil on the moving parts and WD40 on the brake lines. if you want to take good care of your mountain bike keep it inside keep it oiled and greased just rub some grease on it not too much though and just take good care of it and it'll be just fine If you leave your bicycle outdoors, you deserve to walk! Bicycles are not to be left outside, end of story. If you really want to take care of it, you'll find a place inside to keep it. You should lube the chain with quality lube you bought at the bicycle shop when it needs it, not necessarily every ride. Take it back to the shop you bought it every month or so to get your free tune-ups and adjustments. You DID buy a good bike at a real bike shop, didn't you? One with a warranty and a service contract? A warranty that is revoked if there are signs of abuse (like leaving it outside)? |
