Is the brand NEXT okay for a mountain bike? Or should I go for a mongoose or some other brand? |
I was going to get this Bike, but is it too cheap and do you think it'll fall apart on me? go here to take a look at the bike- http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.d... I think it looks pretty cool but for you bikers out there who know stuff is this bike okay? please stay away from Walmart, Kmart, Sears, etc. if you are serious about riding any bike... like the previous post says, only if you are riding just to the corner market should you buy a cheap bike like that check out KHS, Trek, Specialized, or Giant at your local bike shop. simple answer: not a good choice, unless you only ride down to the corner store. they make a big deal of things that standard on a good bike (seatpost quick release, 90% of mtbs have these). Steel bikes are very heavy. the suspension will be stiff. speaking from experience, my first bike like this came with an 850lbs spring, way to heavy for a 150lbs guy- so stiff it felt like a hardtial and its adding extra weight. a decent bike will have at least 21 speed drivetrain and these parts are going to break easily and are most likely not replaceable. dont expect walmart to give you a tune up after few hours like a good shop will. i cheap dual suspension bike is a waste of money. if you want something reliable, get a hardtail for AT LEAST $200. thats a bare minimum. remember, the more the better- fork out more cash, get better parts which means less weight, better quality parts, smoother and more reliable shifting, etc. check out this mongoose: http://www.sportsauthority.com/product/i... you get a free tune up after the first few hours of riding from Sports Authority. this is not a really great bike, but will work fine if you just need something to commute a couple miles to work or like to cruise on the local bike path. hardtail frames are more reliable, require less maintenance, and are generally stronger than a dually. good luck! bike shop mechanic Anything from Walmart sucks. Don't give them your money. Go to your local bike shop and get a good bike. The above posts are right. Walmart makes "fake" bikes really. They will fall apart even if you just ride around in town. I would suggest going to a bike shop. They can set you up with a bike that will last. It will be a lot lighter and will not break down on you all the time. Also if it does break down, they will be able to repair it. IMany different companys make real bikes for a good starter price. You probobly won't be able to afford full suspention, but you'll get front shocks and those shocks on walmart bikes arn't realy shocks anyways, just springs that make riding harder. Go to a real bike shop and you will not be dissapointed. You may even end up getting really into mountain biking. Next is a brand that looks like a mountain bike but is intended only for occasional ON ROAD use. There is usually a sticker on the bike stating this or it is in the owners manual. Looks ain't everything. If you want a real mountain bike expect to pay at least $800. 26 years in the industry |
