Is it normal for rear tire of my mountain bike to rub the lower part of the frame when riding?

This happens a lot when i'm straining going uphill and I tilt my bike side to side. I notice that the rear wheel is just slightly out of true but it's not bent at all. It just all of a sudden started happening. I have an aluminum bike with ceramic lightweight race wheels. Maybe the rear wheel is flexing? Do the wheels tend to flex if lightweight?

First I would check the dish of the wheel, checking to see if the wheel is centered properly,
Next I would check spoke tension.
As for your rim flexing, Light wheels can flex.
I have owned Mavic Ceramics laced with dt Revolution Spokes, Light but flexy.

My best guess with out seeing the wheel is the dish is off abit, so alittle flex and the tire rubs. Source(s): Racer/ work at a shop
Hey,

I would not call this normal...

The wheel will flex when turning, but it shouldn't be enough to rub the frame.

Make sure the axles are seated in the dropouts properly.

Check the tire size... is the tire just too wide?

Lastly, the wheel may be dished (off to one side). Does it hit both sides of the frame, or just one?

I would bring the wheel into a shop, and have the dish checked.. thats not normal.

good luck

no, bikes flex some, but if you are getting contact the tire is either too wide for the frame, a joint has failed causing excessive flex, the frame is bent, the wheel isnt centered correctly, or it is out of true so bad it makes contact. something needs fixed there.
your wheel really should not rub agains the chainstay of your bike. but this does happen. just have your wheel trued in your local bike shop. if your rims aren't bent out of shape already, they should be able to fix the problem.
