Will a raod cassette fit on a mountain bike? |
i have an old rigid diamondback that im trying to turn into a bootleg road bike to use for training. it needs a new cassette, can i use a road cassette on it? i need something geared low, like a 28-11t. Yes, a road cassette will work just fine on an MTB. You might want to take a link out of the chain. 11-28 MTB cassettes are certainly available (8 speed only), but that isn't road gearing. If you're using this to ride on the road, you shouldn't need more than a 23 unless you live in the rockies. As another asnwerer noted, if this bike is so old that it has a rigid fork, a 9 speed cassette might not fit. I suspect it will, but don't be surprised. If that's the case, you'll need a 8 speed cassette anyways. Maybe, depends on your rear frame spacing. Not sure why you need to; mountainbike wheels are cheap and plentiful and cassettes are available in lots of ratio's. cassette / body options: http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/k7.html... wheels: http://harriscyclery.net/itemlist.cfm?ca... road what? |
