What is the big difference between the Cross Country Mountain bike forks?

I looking to upgrade my forks on my bike. It's a Raleigh M80...yea yea I know but I like the frame and I'm content on keeping it. My current forks are Manitou six and I like them but I'm looking at other Manitous, Marzocchi, Rock Shox (Tora, Recon) and trying to find what the main differences is. Is having adjustable travel a big deal? I definitly want lock out and want to stay under $350. What is a good fork for under that price that will lock out for the road and will keep up with the moderate trails I hit up?

The Tora is a very good option. Rock Shox has different Tora models. There is a version with Motion Control and another one without it. Look at the Motion Control one. It will help you when you ride on paved trails and smooth to remove pedal bob, you will not need a lock out for this one. One of the variations I think is U-Turn. The U-Turn means you can change the travel. Since you're current frame is designed around a 80-100 mm fork, don't go for a 130mm fork, I think there are some 100mm designed Toras.

Marzocchi also has some very good forks, but probably for that price I would go for a Tora.
Cross country forks are lighter and will not take the big hits of down hill riding. I would try to get a Reba personally. The tora is a so so fork. You should be able to get one on eBay new for around 230 or so.
Look on eBay you can always get a deal there.
