Mountain bike training? |
I want to finally get serious about cycling and race. I have been riding my whole life but the last 2 years I have been trying to push myself to see what I can do. This season coming up I want to start some amature races. I will race downhill. Any tips on some good exercises? I ride as much as I can but the weather has been horrible for the last few months to ride. Its finally clearing up so I can go out. Im looking for some simple things I can do to maybe help me have better endurance. I know running is a good idea. If you are going to try downhill racing (it's lots of fun!) then endurance is not as big a problem. Think about the types of skills it takes to go downhill faster and work on those. For example, downhill racing requires short bursts of high energy pedaling followed by some coasting and more bursts of pedaling. This makes downhill racing more anaerobic than aerobic. So while it is good to have a base level of fitness you should work more on duplicating those short, all-out bursts with rest in between to get your body used to that. The big thing though is improving your downhilling skills. One trick some downhillers use to improve their riding skills is to ride the same difficult section over and over again. This lets you master it and develop the skills and confidence it takes to go fast. Good luck and have fun! ride on a stationary trainer that helps and go trail riding that helps too practice skipping is good it will tone up those calf muscles, also sit ups should do the job. Takes time don't expect miracles overnight. |
