Can I mountain bike with an 80GB iPod (internal hard drive)? Yes, you *can* mtn bike with an 80GB Ipod, but I would not recommend it; especially if you are on trails and bouncing around a lot. If you are riding streets then it probably doesn't matter. I'm not sure how familiar you are with the internals of hard drives, but here's a quick explaination. Inside the hard drive there are plates that spin, with a needle that reads the information that is on these plates. Think of it like a record player, only the needle doesn't touch the spinning plate. When you subject the drive to a major jolt then it sends the needle into the plate and kills your hard drive. I would explore purchasing an ipod with Flash memory, such as a Shuffle or Nano. They don't have the massive capacity, but there are no internal moving parts. Also, be careful. It is dangerous to ride with headphones because you can't hear anything that is going on around you. Just make sure you don't fall on it or drop it. They should be fairly durable. You can't mountain bikw ith an ipod you need a nike for that, but you can take your iPod with you while you mountain bike! yeah and with 80 gig you can bike for a very long time. see if you can get a waterproof case for it and dont drop it tho dont cuz ull fall and brake your ipod. are you referring to getting a bike with a built in hard drive or just a regular ipod? you can do that easily, why not, as long as you have $300 just laying around. what would be really sick is to have an iPod built into the bike. but that would require custom tubing and some kind or waterproofing and shock protection. A serious bike rider would never take a iPod with him / her. You can stay home and listen to music. Bike riding is about getting out in the fresh air and away from such things! I never would, as a safety issue. You want to hear what's going on around you. |
