My mountain bike feels like the gears are slipping what causes this and how do i fix it? Go to a local bike shop!!!!!!!!! Source(s): http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bicyclingh... Your derailleur is probably slightly out of alignment. Put your bike in first gear and turn it upside down. Look at the derailleur and make sure it is lined up perfectly with the gear the chain is on. If not, firmly push on the derailleur until it is lined up. (This will not hurt anything.) If this does not fix it, I would just take it up to the bike shop, which will not cost you much, if anything. Good Luck. Experience Does it feel like it is slipping gears, or is it slipping gears? Is it slipping rear gears or front gears? I am going to assume that the slippage is occuring on the rear cogs. You probably just need to adjust your barrel adjuster; it is one of the three screws on the rear derailleur. This process is too much to describe here, but there are many websites that can help. Here is one: http://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto... If you don't like this one, google "adjust rear derailleur" There are ultimately many things that can cause the slippage (ie.., worn cogs, damaged chain, debris, etc), but I am 99% sure that you need to adjust the limit screws or the barrel adjuster. Read the link that I sent and re-post if you still have probelms. Oh, I should mention that properly adjusting the derailleurs can be very frustrating because it requires the proper balance of multiple variables. Just stick with it...follow the order defined by the website, and you should be fine. most likely time to get a new chain and cassette, remember you must change them both at the same time! |
