Can I use a mountain bike for city comuting, cement path biking? How will the lack of seat suspension matter? Of course you can! I'm not sure where the concern with a "lack of seat suspension" comes from, but a mountain bike will have larger tires and give a more plush ride than a road bike would. You may want to get a pair of smoother tires to lower your rolling resistance and make the trip easier, and one set will last a LONG time! Of course. No problem. Here in NYC, you see food delivery guys, messenger delivery guys and all other commuters using mountain bikes. Good riding! Lack of suspension won't hurt nothing. In fact, I think it'd be a benefit as you've less weight to pedal. run some tires that are about 1.5" wide and you're good! I ride my mountain bike for commuting and road riding all the time. Lack of seat suspension won't make much of a difference. However, I have found that the ride is easier if you get yourself some narrower non-knobbing road tires. Several tire companies make slicks or light treaded tires for mountain bike use on paved roads. Check out Bike Nashbar, Performance Cycling or your local bike shop. |
