I have got a Mountain Bike and want to put disc brkaes of low cost around $50 plzzzzzzzzzzzzz tell me? DON'T!!! Disc brakes are very troublesome unless they're expensive multi-pot models (and even then they can be a pain). Not only that, you absolutely do not need them unless you're mud-plugging or doing serious downhill all the time. The only advantage they offer is that they're further away from the rim and therefore less exposed to the sh1t. Unless you're clever technically you can't service them reliably, so you'll have big service bills. The parts are expensive and wear out more quickly than rim brake equivalents. Buy better rim brakes if your present brakes are no good. Cheaper, lighter, no maintenance of any consequence, good braking in all conditions and fit and forget. Personally I like top of the range Avids - cheap, good looking and very effective. I don't think it is possible to do it at that price. I know the disc brake parts aren't the cheapest things so it may be hard to just keep part costs under $50. You might find some, but what are the quality of brakes that low cost? I would've thought that the one thing you shouldn't skimp on is the brakes ! go to bike nashbar they got everything you need at great prices BikeNashbar.com they will have them if you are lucky enough to have a bicycle co-op group in your area like sopo bikes, www.sopobikes.org try checking with them. some very good stuff and people can be found at them. check the buy&sell section of www.pinkbike.com there are people that are sell in good products on there for cheep the only problem is that most things are used and brakes might not be a good thing to buy used. most new good disc brake sets come for over 100 dollars but the good thing as that you can get pretty good ones for under 200. but i dont know if you will be able to find any for under 50. and any disc brakes that you do find for that price will probably not perform as well as v brakes you could find for the same cost. Tektro makes a cable actuated kit that has everything but the lever (you'd need two for 1 front and 1 back). You can use the existing levers if they are the V-brake or linear pull type. Ball park price is about $65 per set. Better make sure the fork & frame have the disc brake tabs on them. You also have to have disc compatible hubs to bolt the rotor on to and need to know what size rotor the fork can handle. |
