What is the best mountain bike for under 500 dollars? Depends on your riding style, and FIT At that pricepoint, you'll probably find many similarities, so I would do lots and lots of test riding, and pick something that feels right. One definete recommendation, get a hardtail. Any rr suspension at that price will be garbage. I'm more of a casual rider, so I didn't need anything fancy. I would recommend it if your looking for a "relatively" inexpensive bike. I did several 40+ mile bike tours with it and didn't have a single issue, well at least not equipment related. CT is right. That list is only part of maybe 20+ bikes at $500 worth looking at. Look in bike shops and on-line too. Ebay to look just to see what's out there even if ya don't buy. I looked at a lot in that price range recently. I did like the specialized hardrock sport, but the nagging problem that I saw were that the shocks weren't good. then again, I couldn't find a bike at that price that had decent shocks. you'll probably have to check them all out and find the one that best suits your riding. good luck. Kyle, this list is a good start. Unless you plan on some serious jumps and sick drops, stick to a hardtail! I kick myself in the *** every time I get on my dual suspension bike that rarely see's any single track or off road use. Right now, I am seriously looking at the Jamis Coda.
