What is the best mountain bike there is? |
I saw the Specialized S-works carbon yesterday but they are $6500. Are they worth it? I think that for that money I would buy other boutique bikes. Titus Moto Lite or Racer X exogrid or Titanium, custom size. Anyway, I think that's an impossible question to answer, since there are lot's of different factors, and tastes. Santa Cruz Nomad also get's good reviews, with more money you can get a Jeff Jones, which is very boutique, it's a love it or hate it bike. Personally, I love it :) Turner also has some awesome bikes, as Ventana, Yeti, Intense. There should also be some very good european builders, like Scott USA, BMC and others. I don't know much about that side of the pond, other than they have really good riders. As some have said, the difference between a 500 and a 1,500 is noticeable, but the difference from a 1,500 to a 3,000 not so much, and so on. Roadmaster at Wal-Mart. $59 on sale. If you have to ask, it's not worth it for you. I really like Gary Fisher bikes. I suggest going to www.fisherbikes.com and doing the matchmaker option and also going to the compare option. If you want to do something else really fun you can go to www.trekbikes.com and there is an option to design your own bike-- paint, components, and all. Have fun!!! Both those companies have a lifetime warranty on their frames and that is really the most important part of the bike. You can get a good frame with less expensive components at first and then upgrade the components over time. ive had my specialized hardrock for a couple years now.... i think it cost me 400 back then. as much abuse that ive put that bike thru its held up nicely. if you get a crappy bike from walmart your going to get crapy preformance and it probably wont last you that long. gary fisher is a nice brand too. thats what some of my friends ride U asked this question 3 times. u lost 15 points and if u read the terms and conditions u will get kicked out of yahoo answers xtowgrunt has it correct. If you have to ask you don't need to know. There is not "best" mountain bike. That's like saying what's the best food or car. Well depends on what you like and what you're going to be doing with it. A $5000 Downhill bike is worthless is all you ride is cross country. Go get some mountain bike magazines and do some reading. Better yet, go buy that $59 POS special and figure out what type of riding you like, then buy a real bike. the best bike there is is the one that fits you best and has the most features you want for the price you're willing to pay. Keep it mind, too, that the differences between a $2,000 bike and a $6,500 bike are pretty small (in fact, the more expensive bike is probably less durable, especially with big riders). But between $500 and $2,000 you'll see a giant leap. |
