What is the best technical mountain bike route to do near to London?

Have the use of a car to get there but, would like to know of something quite technical near the South West? Can you Help?

If you like DH/FR kind of riding then there is Penshurst (www.porc-online.co.uk) or Esher Shore. If you're a dirt jumper there are some killer trails at wisley, Or slightly further away is Aston hill.
You could ty to follow the route that the London to Brighton Cycle ride take, it leads you across Surrey and Sussex and gives you a technical route over the southdowns.

If not try this website hopefully it should give you some good examples of routes.

i hope this helps you NORTHUMBERLAND AND THE BORDERS

"Explore the fortresses of the Northumberland coast - the castles of Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh, the coastal plain contrasting with the rolling hills of the Cheviots, followed by the rugged upland moors of the Pennines. Take in the peel towers, country estates, forests and Hadrian's Wall," says Cath. There is some hill-climbing, so check your gearing to bump up the daily mileage, and book into the local YHAs or camp.

Sweat factor: Moderate.

How long: 395 miles, seven to 14 days.

Info: Full details from Cyclists Touring Club (0870-873 0060); the Northumberland Tourist Board (0906-683 3000).

HELLY HANSEN V-TRAIL

Set in the heart of the beautiful Tweed Valley Forest Park near Peebles, Scotland, this is one of the best lung-busting trails in Britain. "It has everything a trail should have - and more, with massive, single-track climbs and twisting, flowing and steep technical descents that go on for miles," says Steve. Look out for the two handbuilt stretches of timber ramps, which test riders' balance to the max. Finish with a slab of carrot cake at the Hub cafe, which is run by two ex-British mountain-bike champs.
Leaf hill, down near Guilford, its got a couple of technical decscents and leg burning climbs.

Local - For a good fast route, with cycle distance from home in London, head to Richmond Park, the outside single track is good, old people hate you going on it because they walk their dogs there, so they put logs etc accross the paths, forcing concentration. its got a good downhill bit with long run out sided by trees so you have to get your angle right.
Riding there
Depends how technical and how near, have u tryed epping forest for a short but rather technical ride????
