I'm new in cycling and thinking of getting a mountain bike, for RM400, what mountain bike would you recommend? I assume your talking Malaysian Ringgit. (about 116 Usd) I'm not sure of the Malaysian market your a bit closer to the manufactures than most. But I would still hazard a guess that you won't be getting too much new. (The new stuff you could buy you probably do not want). If your short on cash don't worry about suspension and buy the best components you can. Good luck Workout what frame size you need. (visit an on line calculator) Try the used market or squeeze your piggy bank harder. As far as components go (better first) XTR,Saint, DXR, Deore XT, Hone, Deore LX ,Deore, Alivio, Acera, Altus, Tourney, I am not sure what RM400 is, I assume it is a currency. However, as usual with these types of question, it depends upon what sort of biking you want to do. I would not, until you have riden for a bit, spend a lot of money on an all singing, all dancing carbon jobbie. I would look at spending money on a good frame and upgrading when I was more confident. Parts, no matter how good, will wear out. So I would look at an entry level bike, spending somewhere in the region of 3 - 拢400. I would go for 24 - 27 gears (24 are better for winter riding, since they will not clog up with dirt as easily, 27 are better for summer and general hill work). This gives you a choice: Specialized - Rockhopper, Claude Butler - Cape Wrath, Giant (Can't remember the model name, but costs about 拢425 and comes with Deore + Hydraulic discs). Kona are also worth considering, but it is not a style that I have gotten on with. You might also consider last years models. You can usually get a deal on these, which means you can afford a better spec bike, but a lot cheeper. Of all of the models, I would look at the Cape Wrath, closely followed by the Specialized.
