What is the price range for an average mountain bike?


I'm looking to ride on dirt/gravel roads - probably not single track.

if you are planing to go off road, i just purchased a giant trance 3 and i love it, full suspention, disc brakes, twenty-seven speed, aluminum frame it weighs about 26lbs, and i payed around $1300, extremely happy with this purchase.
I recommend talking to your local bike dealer and getting sized for a bike to fit you and your needs, don't just buy one from wal-mart, because when you shop at a dealer they will give you mantainance packages and they can help you better
$100 - $150
for my birthday last year i got a K2 attack 2.0 and it has full suspension disc brakes 24 speed only thing thats gone wrong was a 10$ piece that was meant to bend got bent when i was doing wheelies or "riding it to hard" it cost around 850$
